It all started so well with a lovely, sunny evening for the leagues on Friday night with plenty of spectators at the club, coming out to enjoy watching the others on the green whilst enjoying a drink followed by fish and chips, then the wheels dropped off!
In the Middlesex ladies Double Rink, we played Winchmore Hill (what a heavy green away!) and although teh away team – Jean, Nadine, Joan O’N & dawn won by 5, it was not enough to cover the deficit at home and Ann H, Cathy, Corale & Margaret went down by 7. Having said that, it was all down to the last four bows at Winchmore Hill. If only their skip hadn’t trailed the jack ……..
At least we were back in time to watch the Cup Final. Chelsea did win the Premier League so it’s not all doom and gloom, Norman!
On Sunday, it was a warm then wet defeat to London Civil Service by 47-55. Thanks to Brenda & Dave for serving up the sandwiches and to Jane for covering the bar.
Meanwhile in Sutton, club members Ann H, Cathy T & Nadine were part of the Middlesex Walker team playing against Surrey. The teams were down and under pressure but as soon as it started raining and the green became slightly heavier, they picked up some more shorts but in the end went down by 6 shots. This is a good result, considering Surrey had trounced Middlesex last season. If only it had started raining sooner …..
On Bank Holiday Monday, Jean, Norman, Nadine & Gym defeated Bishop Duppas’ Steve G, Tricia G, Mike & Tina C in the round robin part of the Chertsey Open Fours. Steve’s team reached the final but narrowly lost out to Ashford’s Ron S, Gary, Carol D & Dave P who had been beated by Dawn’s team in the round robin!
