It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Dennis Roche on Thursday night following a stroke and a fortnight in hospital.
Dennis was one of the original indoor members at Cambridge Park as well as a skip to be reckoned with outdoors. He achieved the status of double county player, representing both Middlesex and Surrey – although of course not in the same season.
Dennis worked for Watneys (alongside Reg H) and both represented the company at matches, which were of a very high standard indeed.
Dennis missed the 2015-16 season having had a fall and injuring his shoulder but managed to play some league matches in 2016-17 season. He sometimes appeared for the odd pint before heading off to bingo on a Friday night. He should have reached the “two fat ladies” age (88) this summer but he was anything but fat! He was very kind and encouraging to me (Dawn) as a new bowler for which I was very grateful – especially when I started out in the Thursday Open League.
He was one of the loved characters at Cambridge Park and we offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Audrey, and the rest of the family.
Funeral on Friday 23rd February at 1.00 pm at Hanworth Crematorium and afterwards at Cambridge Park.
