Saturday 18th March – Mixed Triples v Ember

An exciting start to the afternoon when Dawn checked her phone at 1.45 pm to find that Archie had been taken unwell on leaving for the match meaning that neither Ann nor Archie could play.  (You’ll be plesaed to know he was feeling a bit better by the evening).  A quick ring and both George H and David H ( with kind permission to be spared of Saturday duties) hastened to the club.  What a great game they had.  David was bowling like a demon and they had a hefty win, although Gym’s other two – John L and Dawn – did manage a 13 shot lead to take top rink or should that be top triple?  We had a great game and Adam, the Ember captain and Stuart put up a very hard fight at the front end.  Gym & Sylvia tussled it out at the skips’ end and Sylvia played not just one but FOUR running woods ditching the jack and following it straight in with her bowl.  Great stuff!

The curse of rink 2 (which followed on into Sunday) proved too much for Reg’s team but they did narrow the gap by the end of the game.  Sheila’s team had a nip and tuck match on Rink 1 all the way and were only narrowly defeated by 2 shots.

There was tea, crumpets and home made cakes to finish off the day’s proceedings which all seemed to go down very well.  Adam gave a nice tribute to Dave N, who played in his final game for Ember after many years dedication to the club.  We are very lucky to have Dave playing indoor at CP, although it was he and his team who made light work of Reg’s team’s efforts!

Thanks to George and David H stepping in at extremely short notice and to Reg who helped me behind the bar and to Ann B who did all the setting up of tables for the tea and the multiple volunteers who cleared, cleaned and washed up afterwards.  Great team work and much appreciated.
