There were two nail biting games by the hoe teams as Gym’s rink went nip and tuck against Dave Pitt’s team. Slow start, good middle, slipped back then went ahead and securd the final end when Bernard put a cracking wood up ditching the jack and following it straight into the ditch! The only hope was for Dave P to hit the Hounslow touching wood into the ditch dislodging Bernard’s wood. He had a great try and only narrowly missed pulling off the short of the century.
Meanwhile on Rink 3, Geroge’s team started off well and stayed in the lead all the way through with George playing some amazing saves at 6 shots down in the head and drawing with his last wood on at least two occasions. New members Roy E and Brian N settled down after the first few ends and contributed a great deal to the team’s result. It was only in the final end that Andy Knott’s team managed to cling on to their 3 shots ending the match in a 14-14 draw.
The away teams got off to a good start holding the opposition up to the 5th end, before Hounslow got into the swing of playing on home territory and crept ahead on both rinks.
The result 1.5 rinks to 2.00 in favour of Hounslow but it’s the overall shots that count in this competition and Hounslow won that comfortably. Well done to them and good luck in their next round v Egham. Our lads take on King George Park in the plate on 5th November.
