… as we host the Open Singles Circuit Competition at the Club. The winner will take home £1,000 thanks to our sponsors – Lisa Colley from St James Wealth Management, Sunvil Holidays and Absolutebowls.com. The runner-up will win £400, the losing semi-finalists £200 and the losing quarter-finalists £100 each.
There might be the odd one or two over 60s playing but there will be a considerable number of much younger players of terrific standard playing bowls on our indoor green. We have a Commonwealth Gold medallist competing, some international players as top County players as well as current and former club members and competitors travelling from all over the country.
If you thought bowls was a slow, gentle game, come along and be surprised! With the 2 x 9-end sets plus a tie-break, the games moves quickly and there will be the whole range of shots from delicate draws, to controlled weight runs to full out firing! A lot of the competitors take part in several of these tournaments and are used to the format. You need to get going quickly or it passes you by in the blink of an eye!
Kim will be serving snacks all day and the bar will be open. Tea, coffee, cake and the launch of the Cambridge Park BC Ice Cream (made especially for us by South Street Cafe Ice Cream Parlour in Isleworth) will also be available.
Come along for an hour or stay longer. Matches start at 09.00 am and will be played continuously with the last ones starting at 9.00 pm on Saturday night.
On Sunday, matches start at 09.00 am with continuous play until the Quarter-finals around 4.00 pm, followed immediately by the semis and final. For any competitor playing their first round match on Sunday morning and reaching the final, it will mean 5 matches in a day and it will take every bit of concentration for the final.
See you at the weekeend!
