Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September – Club Finals Weekend – Results

It was an extremely well organised weekend by Cathy Taylor and everything ran to plan and it only rained for about 10 minutes, so we were lucky albeit chilly on Saturday!

Results below, with winners in red.  It was really good to see that it wasn’t the ‘same old faces’ appearing in multiple finals.  We are a very strong club and the standard of play is high as was shown by the quality of the matches.

Huge thanks to Cathy for taking complete control of the weekend in her role as Competition Secretary as well as preparing the lunches on Saturday and for helping Ange, who prepared Sunday’s lunches.  Thanks to the members who helped with the washing up and clearing up.  Great team effort.  Thanks to Jane and other volunteers who manned the bar for the weekend.

Also, a big thanks to Trevor who cut and rolled the green – it really is the best outdoor green in Middlesex! – and to Terry for turning it on Saturday morning.  Thanks to the club members who volunteered to mark the matches as necessary and for everyone who came to support, watch and enjoy the finals.  I’m sure they picked up some good tips and they applauded all the good bowls that were played.  It made a difference to the ambience and atmosphere when every person is involved.

Hi Dawn, Just had a look at your finals results and see some very familiar names from when we played at Cambridge Park – Sheila Mason, Margaret Barnes, Corale Canard and Jean Staples to name but a few. Very well done to all.
Best wishes to all, Sheila & John Stocker

      Hi Sheila & John
Thanks for the comment. Yes, there are still a lot of familiar faces and they’re all still bowling well, despite the odd aches and pain that come with age.
Reg Harding hit 90 this year and Gerry Swan 91. George Hughes and a few others are catching those two up!
Unfortunately we lost Ken Wilson and Martin Fenton in August this year. Rita Wadge has moved to a home nearer her daughter in Kent.
The Men v Ladies final outdoor match is on Saturday 21st at 2.00 pm. It would be lovely to see you if you can make it. Just let me know if you’d like to join us for tea afterwards.

Hello Dawn, Sorry we cannot make this Saturday or the following one. We are still bowling outdoors at Pagham Bowls Club in Bognor Regis. Sorry to hear about the passing of Martin Fenton, that wasn’t long after losing Rita. They were the pair who introduced us to Cambridge Park indoors. We both played for Hampton BC outdoors and I’m hoping to organise a trip to Hampton next year, to bow against them.
Thanks again for replying to me. We met one of your indoor players recently on a cruise. It was good to catch up, hadn’t seen him for nearly 20 years.
        Best wishes, Sheila
