Gardening and Plant Donations

We were fortunate enough to have a visit from Mr Squires or Squires Garden Centre yesterday.  They are going to give us two or three rhododendrons to plant as a reminiscence of the garden surrounding the bowls green back in 1921, which is lovely.

He thought the whole outside area a real treasure and had been unaware of its existence until yesterday!  He made the suggestion that not to try and clear the whole of the garden for this month, but to select areas, clear them of ivy/wild garlic then plant some colour – geraniums, primulas, pansies etc.

So, if anyone can offer to help dig up and clear the wild garlic around the first two benches nearest the club house and then one other of the gardens beyond the scoreboard, this would be brilliant.

Secondly, would anyone be able to donate any flowering plants/shrubs/compost we could put into those areas?  We have the County Bannerette next Thursday 12th and then the Centenary Match on Friday 21st May so with those two deadlines hurtling towards us, we need to get a bit of a move on!  I can offer some hours on Sunday afternoon if anyone would like to join me.

Lynde House will also be planting a tree for the Centenary for us.   They are open to suggestions – some of my favourites are flowering cherries, ornamental pear, ‘tulip’ magnolias and acers, but what types of tree would you like to see around the grounds?  It’s your club, well, our club, not just mine!

Please let me know

Thanks

Dawn
