Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September – Club Finals Weekend – Results

It was an extremely well organised weekend by Cathy Taylor and everything ran to plan and it only rained for about 10 minutes, so we were lucky albeit chilly on Saturday!

Results below, with winners in red.  It was really good to see that it wasn’t the ‘same old faces’ appearing in multiple finals.  We are a very strong club and the standard of play is high as was shown by the quality of the matches.

Huge thanks to Cathy for taking complete control of the weekend in her role as Competition Secretary as well as preparing the lunches on Saturday and for helping Ange, who prepared Sunday’s lunches.  Thanks to the members who helped with the washing up and clearing up.  Great team effort.  Thanks to Jane and other volunteers who manned the bar for the weekend.

Also, a big thanks to Trevor who cut and rolled the green – it really is the best outdoor green in Middlesex! – and to Terry for turning it on Saturday morning.  Thanks to the club members who volunteered to mark the matches as necessary and for everyone who came to support, watch and enjoy the finals.  I’m sure they picked up some good tips and they applauded all the good bowls that were played.  It made a difference to the ambience and atmosphere when every person is involved.

Martin Fenton Re-united with Rita at the Great Bowls Club in the Sky – Funeral Details inc

It is with sadness that we learned of Martin Fenton passing away on Sunday 1st September following a period in hospital.

He had managed well to start with after Rita died and was back playing indoors for a bit but, alas, his own health deteriorated severely and, along with a broken heart, he passed away peacefully.

Martin (with Rita) put an enormous amount of time, energy and funds into Cambridge Park from being dedicated playing members,  sitting on the board and committees to becoming Chairman.  Martin regularly supported all the club events and donated generously into the various raffle fund-raising events without taking a ticket.  Giving and giving and never looking for any reward.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Carol, losing both her parents within 13 months.  It’s very tough and we send her our love at this sad time.

Cards can be sent to Carol c/o Cambridge Park Bowls Club

Funeral details – 11.20 am at Hanworth Crematorium and afterwards share some tears, laughter and memories at Cambridge Park.  It has been requested that everyone wears something red.  We are celebrating Martin’s life as well as mourning his passing.

Middlesex Ladies Benevolent Triples Winners – Congratulations!

Well done to Audrey, Nadine and Ann H who won the Middlesex Benevolent Triples competition on Sunday 1st September against Dot, Wendy & Rita from Staines.  A good match but our three girls pulled away to secure the win.  Hopefully, they will make it through to Leamington – I don’t quite understand the logistics in this as it’s national and might have something to do with shot difference (as they had to complete 15 ends, although they’d won after 14).

Another trophy for the Cambridge Park cabinet and well deserved.

New Lockers – Old Bowls!

A message from Jane ….

If you haven’t claimed a new locker yet, could you please come down to the club to be allocated one.  I would like to get as many woods and shoes out of the lounge area as soon as I can.

Mornings would be the best time but if you can’t make mornings, please give me a ring to arrange a time.

See you soon

Jane

Monday 5th August – Good Luck to the Famous Four!

Ann Halliday, Jean Staples, Nadine Mullins and Cathy Taylor start the Fours Challenge in the National Championships at Leamington Spa today.

Their match v Cambridgeshire’s Ellen Falkner & team is at 2.00 pm.

On their way to the title in 2017, they played Ellen’s team in the semi-final, so there will definitely be a battle on their hands.

At 9.30 this morning, Tina Cooper & Kay Stockley,h aving won their first round match yesterday, take on Herefordshire in the Senior Pairs.

Good luck to all of the girls!
