Congratulations Dave Pitt!

Yesterday Dave became the 2022 Middlesex Singles Champion. Congratulations!

A report from Tony Waller when Dave was 16-8 up. “Pitt puts his first bowl one foot from the jack and follows up with his other three inside it”

Oh wouldn’t it be lovely if we could all do that?!

At CP, the Springfield match on Saturday was cancelled by our opposition. Awaiting a report from yesterday’s match v London Civil Service

Mixed Friendlies This Weekend

Good luck to everyone playing today v Springfield and tomorrow v London Civil Service.
Some of us are lucky enough to be in Leamington to watch the Commonwealth Games bowls today and cricket in Edgbaston tonight.
Looks like it will be another good sunny day for everyone playing and watching!

Come on Cambridge Park and England!

The Ladies Did It. They Won!

Well done to all the girls that played in the Top Club tonight v Grovelands.
A 3-1 win. Only Dawn failed to win and was outbowled. 9-21.
Fantastic win for the Fours 29-9; a tight game for the Triples 14-12; and a comfortable win for the Pairs 24-18.

Many thanks to Brentham for hosting us giving us not only the green but also a warm welcome very tea and biscuits on arrival and at the end of the match  which was very much appreciated

In the final 32 clubs, we play Gerrard’s Cross on a neutral green by 14th August. Watch this space!

Big Game Tonight – Thursday 38 July

The Ladies are playing Grovelands in the Middlesex Final of National Top Club Competition.
A win tonight would put us into the last 32 in the country, which hasn’t happened for a long time.
5.30 pm start at Brentham BC (neutral green). Supporters very welcome but, if you can’t make it, please keep your fingers crossed for:-

Singles – Dawn

Pairs – Ange & Ann

Triples – Sarah, Lucy & Jean

Fours – Tina, Tricia, Nadine & Cathy

Reserve: Audrey

Thanks!

Another Regional Final for Tina!

Tina Cooper & Ashley Tanner, having dispatched Ange & Dave, Kevin & Lucy and Dawn & Paul from the Middlesex Area Mixed Pairs have now beaten the Paddington Pair in the Area Final and head off to Essex County to play the winners from Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk in the final 32 in the country.
Brilliant result and we wish them well in the next round.

It Was A Good Day at the Office …

… or rather on the bowls greens!

It kicked off with the Middlesex Ladies Fours Final at Bush Hill Park,  Tina, Corale, Nadine & Cathy whooshed off at the start to 13-1 before North London realised they could bowl on this rink and  set to it!  They pulled right back up and towards the end of the match (14th or 15th end) went into the lead by one.  With great determination, the CP girls held in there and were two up going into the final end.  Some cleverly placed bowls behind the jack and Corale holding shot before Nadine put another one in the count put North London under great pressure and, thankfully for our girls,  NL didn’t quite make it.

So our girls are off to the National Championships in Leamington Spa to represent Middlesex.

Ann still tested positive for Covid at 5.00 am this morning, so well done to Corale coming in at the last minutes and in a pressure match.  We all hope Ann is negative soon!  We have the Middlesex Final of the Ladies Top Club on Thursday night at Brentham against Grovelands.

Thank you for keeping your fingers crossed for Dawn as she also managed a pretty reasonable win in the Two Bowl SIngles Championship.  In 2019, she was the runner-up, so a win was very welcome and is another chance to play at Leamington in the National Championships.

Across the North Circular miles in Hendon, Dave Pitt won his quarter and semi-final in the Middlesex Men’s Singles putting him into the FInal next Sunday – also at Hendon.  Only the winner of the event gets to Leamington, so go Dave, go, go, go!

Middlesex Ladies Finals Day – Good Luck!

Good luck to everyone playing in the Middlesex Finals today, especially Nadine, Cathy, Tina & Corale playing this morning. Poor Ann H is still testing positive this morning so has had to drop out of the Fours. So disappointing for her and the first finals day missed for years.
Keep your fingers crossed for me as well in the two Bowl Singles this afternoon!

Thanks

Bowls Greens and Watering

You may not know, but our web host is John Quinn from Bowls Central.  John is a very highly qualified and highly respected green keeper and has an article in Bowls International every month alerting green keepers to what to look out for from ‘localised dry patches’ to ‘wetting agents’ to ‘top soil’, ‘sand’ and loads of other things.

His recent post regarding watering of a green in hot weather is accessed via this link.

I thought you might be interested.

Well done John and thank you !

Congratulations to Tina!

Tina won her Middlesex Area Senior singles Final 21-11 over Hannah Hollis from Bush Hill Park. This puts her into the Regional Quarter finals v the winner of Essex South on 5th August (venue to be announced) and hopefully off to the National Finals at Leamington Spa

Fantastic achievement!
