Club Competitions

Message from Peter Chapman

Due to lack of entries, the following competitions won’t be running:

Ladies Pairs

Ladies Drawn Pairs

Men’s Drawn Pairs

The latter will combine with the Mixed Open Pairs, so it can be two men, two ladies or a mixed pair. There is no obligation by the same-sex pairs for one player to wear a skirt!

Refunds will be made to those who entered non-running comps.

Thanks

Tonight at 5:00 – Men’s National Top Rink v …

Yes, bet you guessed the opposition in one – Ashford!

Our chaps are hoping to re-dress the balance after losing the Men’s Two Fours on Thursday.
Please come along and support. Bar will be open!

Before that, starting at 1:00 at Caversham BC, the Middlesex Ladies play their first inter-county Johns Trophy match v Berkshire.  CP members in the team are Tina, Ange, Cathy, Nadine and Dawn.

With any luck both matches will be played in the dry!

Alas, tomorrows friendly v Chertsey has been cancelled.

A Stormy Discount on Selected Bowls and Items thanks to the Egham Bowls Shop!

The Egham Bowls Shop have kindly given our members some offers of which we can take advantage. So check them out if you’re feeling the chill!

DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE ON ALL INSTOCK ITEMS, whilst stocks last!
I’ll be bringing my daughter for an appointment with Ange on Sunday 9th June at 10am. If any members are needing any items from the shop, I’m more than happy to bring them with me to save people postage costs.
I can also bring bowls for people to try indoors whilst I’m there so if anyone knows what they’d like to try do get them to call me to place orders or check bowls availability and I’ll bring them along to try in their own indoor surface.
Any orders for the above items can be emailed to me on the email below or call me and I’ll bring to the club and take payment on the day or on the telephone if easier for them.

Men’s Drawn Pairs

Ladies’ Pairs

Ladies Drawn Pairs

Open Mixed Pairs

And while we’re on pairs, good luck to Tina & Ashley playing tonight as well as Peter T & Dawn on Friday night

Tuesday 28th May – Ladies Top Club

When one of the 6:00 am news items states there will be “50 consecutive days of rain” and “predicted to be the soggiest summer on record since 1921”, we hope it’s not tonight when the ladies occupy four rinks for Singles , Pairs, Triples And Fours against Ashford at Cambridge Park.
Good luck girls. Better pack waterproofs just in case!

Sunday 26th May

It was a win for the Ladies Double Rink yesterday morning and they now play Ashford on Saturday 8th June in the semi finals.
it was also a win for the RBL v Teddington in the afternoon 2-1 rinks with match Captain Andy H’s rink narrowly pipping Steve G’s for top rink. Well done!  Good to see our friends from Teddington outdoors!

Today we have a friendly v Hampton this afternoon. Well done to Alasdair for pulling 3 Triples together.

Good luck to Laurence who has swapped his bowls for his bicycle and is on the London 100 mile ride. He’s not going for any particular time “I just want to get round”!  He’s done it before so I’m sure he won’t have a problem. It’s not overly hot today.

Saturday 25th May – Ladies Double Rink Morning & RBL Afternoon

Another busy day with the ladies taking part in the Middlesex Double Rink competition v Court Park this morning starting at 10:00 – one rink, one away,  Good luck girls!

This afternoon, it’s the fourth RBL match, this time v Teddington at CP starting at 2:30 pm  Good luck to everyone playing and to Andy H as I think it’s debut as Captain of the Day!

Good see the Friday Night Leagues in full flow yesterday with Anthony & Alasdair’s teams up against each other taking it to the wire 11-11 after the 14 ends.  Green is still a little pushy but it’s only been open 14 days, so that’s not surprising.  With better weather approaching, it will be speed up as well, especially as we play on it more.

Club Competition deadline today.

EIBA individual entries due by next weekend.  You need to create an account on the https://eibacomps.co.uk/ and enter from there.  The club has put in entries for the Yetton Trophy, Mason Trophy, Mixed Egham Trophy, Mixed Top Club, Denny Cup and Men’s Over 60’s Double Fours.

Alas, we couldn’t enter the Vivienne Triples this year as we’re only allowed 4 of a Yetton team to compete in any one match.  Last year, the Vivienne was made up of all Yetton players, so we entered incorrectly.  Good job we lost in the first round!

Middlesex Indoor Comps are also open for entry and I’ll try and print off the forms to drop down to the club over the next week. but there’s no rush as we have to mid July for those

Margaret B – Queen of the Hanging Baskets

Margaret has been busy and the help of her hanging assistant, this year’s hanging baskets now adorn the clubhouse.
Thank you!

Talking of green fingers, there’s a sign up

sheet for those of you who would like to help with the gardens around the green  Gym has been doing a brilliant job for years and it would be nice for others to help

There’s a taster session on Tuesday – sign up at the club 10:00 am
