Match Report from Kevin K

Our Friendly match v West Ealing resulted in a good win for Cambridge Park. All 4 rinks won with top rink being Tricia , Frances D, Bob D and Steve G who won 33 – 15 (congratulations!) against a four from West Ealing who brought Dave Pitt in as sub after 8 ends and included Paul C recovering from an elbow op!  All on rink 2!

The overall score was Cambridge Park 104 – West Ealing 50.

Good luck to all those playing in Middlesex semi finals this week. Cambridge Park is well represented – Men’s Fours on Tuesday evening at Cambridge Park for a start – Kevin, Peter T, Peter J & Steve G – standing in for Andy H, who is working.  Andy, Will & Ian D are playing the Triples on Wednesday at Century and Andy & Teresa are still in Mixed Pairs.  Dawn has Singles semi on Friday.

Also good luck to Dave P and Eldred P in their National Final at Nottingham this week playing on Wednesday and hopefully Thursday and Friday as well.  Then Dave needs to be back for Club Finals on Saturday morning!

Well Done to Our Men’s Fours!

Congratulations to Peter J, Kevin K, Andy H & Peter T who showed a great variety of shots and skill and teamwork when they faced a Herga Four in the Middlesex competition.  They dominated from the start and, as hard as the Herga chaps tried, they just didn’t get the rub of the green.  It’s not clear from the mciba.org website who they’ll be playing next -either Dave P or Steve B from Hounslow or Noel O’S from Paddington.  The match has to be played by 7th April on a neutral green, so, er, next week!

Club Finals Programme

One outstanding semi-final (Mixed Pairs) to be played on Saturday 30th, but the schedule is below – thanks to Dave R.

Markers all sorted!

Sandwich lunch available on both days at £5 per person.

Middlesex League v Herga – Saturday 23rd March

WE WON!  On all four rinks.

Well done to everyone who played and contributed to the win.

Both skips on the away rinks had good games showing they have great drawing skills as well as other varieties of shots.

It was good to end the Middlesex League Season on a high!  Well done and thanks to Mike C for organising the matches and teams.

Ruils – Three Peaks Challenge

We are delighted to have been working with RUILS over the last two years in our desire to become more inclusive in terms of membership diversity.  Cambridge Park Bowling and Sports Club have been providing a regular playing slot (with coaching) for RUILS members.

This exciting venture has been of benefit to both groups as the partnership has been recognised in winning The Community Heroes Project of the year in 2023.

We are now moving to phase 2 in ensuring that we improve disabled access throughout the premises and seek to expand the opportunities for people with a broader range of physical and mental difficulties

We wish Gary all the best of luck as he strives to conquer the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ on behalf of RUILS. His passion and desire to help others will be a strong motive that I am sure will get him through those ‘exercise dips’ both mentally and physically!!

Angela Cumine
Chairperson (2019-2023)

From Gary at Ruils:-

My three years at Ruils so far have been an inspiring, challenging and rewarding experience. My role entails daily interaction with clients who are disabled, living with mental health challenges, and the lonely and isolated. What I also see are clients demonstrating great resilience, courage, and a determination to live as an independent and enriched life as possible, but they need support to achieve this.

I turn 60 early next year (I know!!), and I’venever taken on a big fundraising challenge. I guess I’ve been waiting for one that is personal to me, I know will make a positive difference, and one when I feel when I ask people to donate, it is something that is pushing me to the limit both physically and mentally.

The cost-of-living crisis has left many of our clients struggling, compounding the challenges they already face, and we have long waiting lists for our Counselling and Befriending services.

To add much needed capacity to our Counselling service, a team of 13 members of staff, volunteers and supporters are going to take on the Three Peaks Challenge for the first time on the weekend of May 18th/19th this year. We will be attempting to summit Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (the 3 highest peaks in the UK) within 24 hours (I know!!). One of those volunteers is my daughter Beatrice, so it is a bit of a family affair. This is our fundraising page. Beatrice’s other role is to hopefully make sure her ‘old man’ gets back in one piece. Actually, just get back!

Counselling at Ruils provides a safe and supportive space for parents of disabled young people, or those who are disabled or have mental health conditions themselves, to discuss their concerns and find ways to cope. Our service is unique locally, as it is free of charge to access. It costs us £257 to deliver a series of 12 Counselling sessions to a client who needs support. We currently have 34 clients on our waiting list and a 5 month’s waiting time.

Anything that you can kindly donate will make a big difference. We appreciate your support.
