We need to form the Outdoor Committee, and volunteers are still required to fill the following roles:
- Club Captain
- Ladies vice-captain
- Men’s vice-captain
- League Secretary for the Friday League (David Hale will run the Monday NPL League)
- Ladies National Secretary (may be combined with any of the other roles)
- Men’s National Secretary (may be combined with any of the other roles)
- Secretary (may be combined with any of the other roles)
The following roles have already been filled – thank you to our Competition Secretary – Peter Chapman – and Fixtures Secretary – John Eve.

Without people willing to volunteer a little of their time, the club can’t run properly, so please consider if you can spare a few hours a week to take on one of the positions.

Well done to the lads who beat Herga in the Denny Plate yesterday morning. Absolutely brilliant!
They play Ilford or Glebelands in the next round- result isn’t up yet- on 9th December.
As a result the L&SC Challenge Shield originally scheduled for Saturday 9th v Desborough has been given an extension to Saturday 16th December. Sign up sheet on the board.

Congratulations to Tina & Dawn who secured a victory over Teresa & Jacqui in the National Ladies Pairs. There will be a chance for revenge when the girls meet again in the National Over 60’s Ladies Pairs. (I know, we don’t look that old!)
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Club will be locked at 8:30 pm on Friday 17th; 3:30 pm on Saturday 18th and closed all day Sunday 19th November.
We have a few members under the weather at the moment, so please send positive vibes to members and their families.
The Mixed Friendly v West Surrey on Sunday clocked up a good win. Hooray! Congratulations to all who played.
Unfortunately both the Men’s Pairs and the Mixed Fours went down to the Century bowlers.
Having liaised with Peter T, it seems that the opp skips did the damage. Certainly Dave Baxter had a great game in the Mixed Fours. He’s playing in the Open Singles Finals at Potters in 10 days’ time and we wish him luck – hoping he’ll continue the top quality bowling that he displayed against us!
Jacqui & Teresa play Tina & Dawn on Thursday evening in the National Ladies Pairs and the men are out in force for the 4-rink Denny Plate game v Herga on Saturday morning.

Congratulations to Kevin K, Peter J, Norman & Andy who had super 21-17 win over Watford in the London & Southern County Single Rink Competition.
The Watford Four were runners up last year, so it really was a good win, although all the other teams will be out to knock our chaps off their current pedestal! Next opponents are from Bounds Green.
This morning, there are two Nationals both starting at 10:00.
The Mixed Fours of Tina, Mike, Alasdair & Dawn take on Dave Baxter’s Four from Century at Cambridge Park.
Meanwhile at Century, Peter J & Peter T take on Tom Smith.
They should both be tight games and we wish the CP players well.
In the afternoon, we have four rinks out in a Mixed Friendly v West Surrey. Good to see so many people signing up for the Friendlies. It makes a tough job for the selectors but it’s also a chance for for all our members to play with different people, share experiences and learn new tips. Keep signing up!
Bob has done a great job taking over the indoor fixtures from Ray but we still need someone to take on the Outdoor Fixtures. If you’re keen to play in the matches and take an active role going into the next outdoor season, please let Tony O’B, Sarah, Alasdair, Julian, Peter J, Shaf or Jane know. Thanks.
No official bowls today, so a chance to reflect on times past and what our family generation’s went through so that we are here today.
For some countries the horror and trauma of war continues today. How frightening to be caught up in it because of time and place.
The Festival of Remembrance is televised from the The Royal Albert Hall tonight and the parade to the Cenotaph tomorrow.
My Dad used to take me up to London on the Sunday to view the crosses set out in the various Army, Navy and RAF battalions. He’d look for the naval friends and colleagues he lost in World War II. In the final 4-5 years of his life, he used to go to local schools and recount the experience of the Normandy landings. I went with him sometimes The groups he spoke to were usually heading out to France to view the beaches. It gave the children some insight from a person who had been through it and not just learning from a book or film. They asked questions ranging from “ Did you kill anyone?” to “Were you ever seasick?” to “What did you eat?”
He never glorified it. He was a matter-of-fact person and he knew he had been one of the lucky ones. Mum had been evacuated to Aylesbury and hated it. Her uncle was a Japanese Prisoner of War. He came home but he never spoke about it.
This weekend specifically, we will remember everyone who has fought and continues to fight for peace and the safety of their families now and for generations to come. We are thankful.

It’s the ladies’ turn this morning as they play Egham in the first round of the Vivienne Trophy – four triples – 2 home and 2 away.
It’s the first time we’ve entered this in over 10 years, so let’s hope we get off to a good start!
