Tuesday Evening Roll Ups Continue until the end of the Season

From Sarah:

Thank you to all the members who supported our Open Day.

After our four-week introduction course we have recruited nine new members.  I am very hopeful that we will add to that number in the coming weeks.

I would especially like to thank Tony, Alasdair, Karen, Julian, Jacqui, Lucy, John and Jane for all their support.

Our new members are very keen and I would love for them to meet and play with our existing members.  Some will join the morning roll ups but many work and are unable to play during the day.  We will keep the Tuessday evening roll ups going, so please come and join us, especially if you are meeding players for your Friday evening league team.

Thank you.

A big thank you to Sarah for all the hard work she put in with organising the Open Day and for putting the introduction course together and following it through with all the helpers.

To all our new members … WELCOME!

Those of us who are involved in County and National Competitions are somewhat busy until the middle of July, but after that we will have some more time and hope to join you on a Tuesday evening, at least.

More Congratulations!

Brian C and Anthony and another reached the Club 75 shot competition. A triple match!

Well done to Sarah for reaching the Area Final of the National Champion of Champions. Next match is away v Sue A from Bush Hill Park

Tina & Dawn won their respective National Senior Singles and now face each other in the Area semi-final.
Gary & super sub Scott beat a pair from Hurlingham Park in the Middlesex Pairs and on the adjacent rink Andy H & Dave P had a convincing win against Andy Ticker & partner from Masonians.

Sarah & Lucy are through to the Middlesex Pairs quarter final on Sunday 2nd July. . Let’s hope that results in a semi final in the afternoon too.
Jean’s Senior Fours play at home on 4th July but the other CP Senior Fours haven’t revealed further details.
On Wednesday, the Ladies Singles and on Thursday, the Ladies Triples start second rounds in earnest.
Good luck to all playing. Keep us updated.

Saturday – Club 75 Shot Competition

Weather looks set fair for Saturday for the 75 shot competition and boiling hot.
This is a really good fun event and now that Brian C has adapted some scoreboards, it means that everyone can see what’s happening.  For many years it was only the match marker who knew the score!
Contact Peter Chapman for more information.

Sadly a Loss Last Night

It was another 1 shot defeat last night in the Tony Alcock Over 60’s Mixed Double Fours to North London.
We all tried very hard but it wasn’t to be. It was the second 1 shot defeat against North London in a week. We need to break the habit!!
We play them again next Friday 30th in the Area Final of National Ladies Top Club. Wish the girls luck!

Roll Up, Roll Up, Roll Up Tuesday!

On Tuesday, Sarah is running the 4th and final ‘coaching’ session with our new bowlers.
To make it a bit different and so everyone gets to know another familiar face, everyone is welcome to come down and join in the bowling fun. Dress casual. 6:30 start. Bar open!

Prizes …. Maybe!

Next Challenge …

The Tony Alcock Over 60s Mixed Double Rink competition continues tonight away at North London Bowls Club.

Good luck to those playing.  North London are providing strong competition for Cambridge Park in the later stages of various National and County competitions.

Club Competition Draws up at the Club

Well done to Peter Chapman.  The club competition draws are now up at the club on the noticeboard backing onto the kitchen wall.  Check out partners and playby dates.

Wins for Peter J in the Richmond & Barnes Singles this week, along with both our Ladies Senior Fours – let’s hope they don’t have to lay each other in the semi final as is what happened in the ordinary Fours.

Alas,Alasdair and Tony lost their R&B Pairs last night v North Sheen.  There were very good heads but the scoreline didn’t reflect that.

On the adjacent rink, Dave P, Andy, Ange & Lisa played a very hard fought Area Semifinal of the National Mixed Fours against Ann H, Dawn, Jay H &Paul C which went into an extra end.  Dave’s team came off with the win.  Some of us are getting good and losing on an extra end.  Getting the perfect line and knocking your opponents bowl in for shot wasn’t entirely helpful.Doh!

More action last night when the third of the coaching sessions taking place, with Jaqui, Lucy, Karen and Julian playing with and encougaing those who had come along to the Open Afternoon.  Glacing across, they are all doing really well and we hope they will stay and join us and to enjoy more fun and games on the green.

Good to see spectators as well and thanks to Jane for doing the bar.

This afternoon, we take on Hampton in a friendly.  Good luck to all playing.  Don’t forget your suncream and hats for this sunny Summer Soltice match.

Successes and Losses

A mixed bag of a week.
Wins for Peter J in the Champion of Champions v Pat McC from Ashford. Peter battles from 11-19 down to win 21-20. Never give up is the motto of the day!

Wins for Jean & Ange v Tricia & Dawn and Sarah & Lucy v Tina & Cathy in the National Senior Pairs.
Sarah & Lucy are also through to the County Pairs quarter finals – congratulations! – and this afternoon they play in the Senior Fours v Bury Lodge (away) whilst our other Senior Fours play tomorrow.
Loss for Dawn v Ashley in the R&B Singles.
Dave P, Andy H & Gary sadly went out in the CountyTriples despite fighting their way back to get close enough to scrape a win in the last 3 ends, but it wasn’t to be as Rob H, Gary C & Joe played just a little better. Great shots from both sides though.
Loss for our girls in the Middlesex Double Rink Semi-Final v North London by one little shot on the extra end. The home team were 3-14 down at 10 ends and scrambled their way back up to lose 16-17 at 21 ends. A fantastic come back.
Unfortunately, although the away team were holding for most of the extra end (brilliant bowl by Tina dividing the other lead’s bowls on the jack and our other bowls well placed, we could not foresee Kembra playing a very good bowl which ended up clipping the edge of the jack sending it sideways and (for them) handily placed behind one of the North London way wood bowls!  It’s a cruel game at times … for the losing team!  Good luck to North London in the final

Today, the Middlesex Ladies start their Walker Cup (2 rinks) challenge v Hampshire. Ann, Cathy & Tina are included in the team with Nadine & Dawn on the subs bench. The men’s equivalent is being played in Henley v Oxon. Ashford are taking a whole rink whilst David P skips the other. Latest weather forecasts look like the men needing waterproofs and rubber soled shoes at midday and just waterproofs for the afternoon and the girls possibly escaping rain until 4 pm – according to the Met Office. I have not consulted Alexa on this!

This afternoon 2 club rinks will be heading to Teddington in the RBL league. Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers, which has understandably depleted our numbers (along with the Walker Cup) for today. Families first.
The Ladies Triples get under way this week and some singles?

The Tony Allcock Mixed Double Fours heads over to North London on Thursday night with Steve, Norman, Peter J, Dave P, Tricia, Jean, Jacqui & Dawn hoping to get a win.
Ann & Dawn team up with Paul C & Jay from West Ealing in the National Mixed Fours on Tuesday v Andy H, Ange, Lisa & Dave Pitt. We might be selling tickets for this match!

Please let us know any other competition results. The R&B and South Middlesex comps are up and running as well as the County Mixed PaIrs.

Congratulations Are In Order – Walker Cup

The news is now officially out!

The Middlesex Ladies Walker Cup team sees ‘old hands’ Ann H & Cathy in the team and a debut selection for Tina Cooper!  Congratulations!!

The other team members are Tonia (Brentham); Hannah (Bush Hill Park); Sandra (Grovelands); Sue & Megan (West Ealing).
Travelling reserves for the match v Hampshire on Sunday at Cambridge Park at 1:30 pm are Nadine & Dawn; and non-travelling reserves Wendy Franklin (Bury Lodge), Linda Hawkins (Bounds Green) and Dawn Rooks (Rosedale)

Good luck to the whole squad.
Supporters and spectators welcome although if you’re a CP member, we were 1 short but are now 3 short for Sunday’s R&B League match away at Teddington …..….
