Saturday & Sunday

First of all, don’t forget there’s rugby on today, Saturday, at Twickenham so if you are heading off anywhere towards the club or RIchmond, allow some extra travel time.

At 10:00 this morning, the Ladies face Ashford (yet again!) in the semi-final of the Middlesex Ladies Double Rink.  One team at home, one away.  Supporters welcome at both venues.

Shaf & Marie are playing Mixed Pairs at Ashford this morning so they would welcome support too!

Tomorrow, we play West Ealing in the Richmond & Barnes League with John Q and (the other) Gordon M making their debut for the club.

The match v Hurlingham Club has unfortunately been cancelled but we’re hopeful the Hampton match will go ahead on Wednesday afternoon at Cambridge Park.  We are looking for about 3 more players.  Karen will be very pleased to take your names if you can play.

There was a hard fought Men’s Triples last night between Alasdair, Alan & Shaf v Dave P, Peter J & Gary.  The latter were well ahead when I left but the score wasn’t truly reflecting the standard of play.

Jean & Nadine won their Middlesex Pairs during the week and Dawn won her National Champion of Champions match and faces Lisa (from Ashford) who knocked Cathy out (not at boxing) last night.

Deadlines for various rounds of multiple competitions are coming up in the next 10 days, so please let us know how you get on.

Saturday 8th – Match v Sunbury Cancelled

Message from Alasdair:

This Saturday’s friendly against Sunbury has been cancelled due to us being unable to field enough players. Next week we have two friendlies on Tuesday 11th June Away at the Hurlingham Club then on Wednesday the 12th at Home against Hampton. At present we are well short of required teams for both matches. We’ll wait until Friday 7th before deciding if we can fulfill these fixtures.
Understandably with commitments to National, County and Local competitions we appear very stretched when it comes to fulfilling all our friendly club fixtures. In recent times Home fixtures have been less of a problem than Away but now our last two home friendlies have been cancelled by us. I will now look at the possibility of reducing the frequency of our remaining friendlies well in advance. I welcome any feedback or advice so please get back to me.
Thank you. Alasdair. alasdairmcwhinnie@gmail.com

Club Competitions

Message from Peter Chapman

Due to lack of entries, the following competitions won’t be running:

Ladies Pairs

Ladies Drawn Pairs

Men’s Drawn Pairs

The latter will combine with the Mixed Open Pairs, so it can be two men, two ladies or a mixed pair. There is no obligation by the same-sex pairs for one player to wear a skirt!

Refunds will be made to those who entered non-running comps.

Thanks

Tonight at 5:00 – Men’s National Top Rink v …

Yes, bet you guessed the opposition in one – Ashford!

Our chaps are hoping to re-dress the balance after losing the Men’s Two Fours on Thursday.
Please come along and support. Bar will be open!

Before that, starting at 1:00 at Caversham BC, the Middlesex Ladies play their first inter-county Johns Trophy match v Berkshire.  CP members in the team are Tina, Ange, Cathy, Nadine and Dawn.

With any luck both matches will be played in the dry!

Alas, tomorrows friendly v Chertsey has been cancelled.

I can also bring bowls for people to try indoors whilst I’m there so if anyone knows what they’d like to try do get them to call me to place orders or check bowls availability and I’ll bring them along to try in their own indoor surface.
Any orders for the above items can be emailed to me on the email below or call me and I’ll bring to the club and take payment on the day or on the telephone if easier for them.

And while we’re on pairs, good luck to Tina & Ashley playing tonight as well as Peter T & Dawn on Friday night

Tuesday 28th May – Ladies Top Club

When one of the 6:00 am news items states there will be “50 consecutive days of rain” and “predicted to be the soggiest summer on record since 1921”, we hope it’s not tonight when the ladies occupy four rinks for Singles , Pairs, Triples And Fours against Ashford at Cambridge Park.
Good luck girls. Better pack waterproofs just in case!
