Alas, it was another round of bronze and silver medals yesterday.
Ange was beaten in the semi-finals of the Middlesex O55s Singles by Linda Andrews who then went on to lost to Sue Apperly from Bush Hill Park in the final. Well done, Sue!
Kevin, Sarah, Gym & Dawn started very slowly against their North London opponents and found themselves 2-13 before they started clawing back the shot difference. Holding 2 on the 14th end which would have levelled the match at 15-15 would have made for a very tense final end. However, a North London bowl just dribbled in for shot *sob*. Despite fighting hard for the final end, with Dawn taking the jack to within a couple of feet was good in one way – 3 down to 1 up but then left the 3’s and skips trying to draw an almost impossible shot or an extra 3 shots for Kevin on the edge of the ditch! It wasn’t to be and we went down 13-17. We didn’t expect to get through the first round so to reach the final was a great result, although disappointing that we won’t be representing Middlesex at Leamington. Good luck to North London. For their skip, it was the first time he’d got through to the Nationals after 40 years (he must have started playing very young!) and it was a really emotional moment for him, so we’re very pleased for him.
I think the only county competitions left are Kevin & Laurence in the Whisky Pairs and Kevin & Lucy in the Mixed Pairs. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Monday League today. Play well!
