Congratulations & Commiserations!

Congratulations to Karen & Jacqui on their continuing winning streak this time in the Middlesex Over 55 Pairs. Also through to the quarter-finals on Sunday are Tina & Cathy.
Commiserations to Jean & Ange who came second in their Over 55’s Pairs and also to Tina in the Area Final of the National Senior Singles. Tina was the first to admit that Hannah Hollis from Bush Hill Park was on the jack from start to finish! We wish Hannah well at Leamington.

Congratulations Jacqui & Karen!

Well done to both Jacqui and Karen who won their respective Middlesex Over 55 Singles last night against two experienced opponents from Ashford.

This puts them both into the quarter-finals on Sunday at Ashford. Good luck!

It does mean we’re another two players short for Sunday’s friendly if anyone out there is available to play, please.

Following their exciting matches, the Club Mixed Pairs took place between Ange & Dave and Dawn & Peter T. This was the expected close match. Dave & Ange got off to a good start – the hares- whilst Dawn & Peter took a while to warm up – the tortoises!

once the score reached 11-11 after 11 ends, the pressure was on. The rain held off but it got quite dark as they started the final 2 ends. A slightly unlucky final bowl from Dave on the 17th nudged the jack giving the other pair 3 shots, one more than they had been holding. Dawn & Peter were 2 up going into the final end. It was close with both girls fulfilling their roles as leads. Peter played a couple of crackers, leaving Dave a very difficult shot to get 3 with his final 2 bowls. Alas, it didn’t happen and Dawn & Peter progress to the next round.

Quiet Weekend but More Action This Week

Saturday’s weather was disappointing to say the least and I think only a couple of club games needed to be re-arranged.

There were a few cars at the club yesterday morning, so perhaps those games were being played just a day later.

With Club competition deadlines approaching at the end of the week, there should be a few more games going ahead.

Following on the from Monday afternoon League (today) Jacqui takes on Carole Daines from Ashford and later in the afternoon Karen plays Marion B from Ashford in the Over 55 Singles . Ange & Dave play Peter T & Dawn in the Club Mixed Pairs.

On Tuesday the Middlesex Over 55s pairs start with Tina & Cathy playing Rita M & partner at Staines whilst, Ange & Jean, face Karen & Jacqui for a 10:00 am Cambridge Park showdown.

Also on Tuesday Peter Judge is in action – not sure what! – and Paul S & Gordon are  playing a comp.

On Wednesday at 11:00 am at Brentham, Tina plays Hannah Hollis from Bush Hill Park in the Area Final of the National Senior Singles.  We wish Tina every luck and I’m sure she’d be very happy to see any supporters for the match  She won the Area Final last year, but with reduced dates for the National Championships due to the Commonwealth Games, Tina had to play another two Regional Final matches only losing out on Leamington by one single shot.  Grrr.

On Wednesday Sarah & Lucy & ANO play their South Middlesex Triples at 5:00 pm and Dave Pitt plays the Middlesex Whisky Pairs (one of the players at least must be unbadged).

Stella & Scott take to the green on Thursday morning and Steve G & co play their South Middlesex John Gardiner comp in the late afternoon.

By the time we get to Friday, some sort of normal routine returns with the morning roll up and the Friday evening leagues.

Having won the Area Final of the National Champion of Champions v Sue Apperl from Bush Hill Park, Sarah now plays against Teresa Newman from Waddington BC – the Bucks Area winner on Saturday morning at Gerrards Cross(?).  We wish Sarah well Also on Saturday it’s the Middlesex Ladies Two Bowl Pairs.  Lucy is working on Plan B to fill Sarah’s shoes.  Marie & partner (not sure if it’s Jacquie or Janice) will also be vying for a place in the semi-final on 3rd September.

In the afternoon there is Club friendly v Springfield and two of our newest recruits will be making their match debut.  Good luck to Wiola and Adrian!  Roy is our captain of the day, leading his team into battle!

On Sunday, we play the London Civil Service.  When I looked on Saturday, we were still a couple of names short.  It is also the Middlesex Men’s Finals Day at Hendon.  Alas, none of our chaps are playing, (although our Indoor Captain, Kevin is playing the Final of the President’s Cup) but they do seem to be doing very well in the South Middlesex competitions.

Saturday 22nd July – Mixed Roll Up at 2:30

It seems to be a quiet weekend coming up, so if anyone fancied joining me for a mixed roll up on Saturday, you’re very welcome  2:00 for 2:30 start  dress casual. Weather forecast looks ok!

Sadly Sarah & Lucy did pass the winning post first last night in their Senior Pairs Area final. Brilliant for getting to the final. We wish Sue & Kaz good luck at Leamington.

Tina’s Senior Singles is next week not this. My mistake.

Good luck to Sarah & Lucy and Tina!

Sarah & Lucy face Kaz & Sue B from West Ealing at Egham (neutral green) this evening in the National Senior Pairs Area Final.
And Tina plays Hannah H from Bush Hill Park in the National Senior Singles Area Final Brentham during the day.
Good luck all of you. We’d like to come and watch and support you in Leamington!

What a Weekend!

A 2-1 rink win in the R&B match v Mid Surrey on Saturday . Steve G, Karen, John & Lucy took top rink pipping Dawn, Tricia, Jacqui & Mike by 1!

Ann, Cathy & Nadine made to the semi-finals of the Triples on Saturday but went down heavily to West Ealing in the semi.

In the Middlesex Finals today, Cathy won the Singles v Tonia from Brentham; Cathy, Ann, Tina & Nadine took the Fours’ title v Vicki, Lou, Lisa & Kerry from Ashford; and in the Senior Fours, Ange and Nadine exchanged places compared to the ‘Young’ Ladies Fours and had a very good win v Lola, Lisa. Sue & Wanda from North London. A difficult day for Lisa and all credit to her for playing. Dawn had a rubbish game in the Two- Bowls Singles Final. If you’d put an open barn door at the end of the green, she wouldn’t have got through it!  Just one of those days. She played a lot better in the rounds up o the final!

Anyway , apart from North London in the Senior Fours, everyone who played today will be representing Middlesex in the National Championships in Leamington in August.  Good luck to them all and do Middlesex proud!

In the Champion of Champions and the Senior Pairs, Sarah and Sarah with Lucy still have a very good chance at getting to Leamington as does Tina in the Area Final of the Senior Singles. Matches being played this week.

Well done to everyone at the Club from Karen, Norman, Jacqui, Jean & Sarah in and out of the kitchen all day preparing lunches and making teas/coffees; to Jane on her feet all day behind the bar; to Roy and Terry for setting up the green this morning ; to all the spectators and supporters from the club and across the county who came along to enjoy the whole day.
Umpire Paul didn’t have a lot to do but it was good to have him there.
Well done to Dee and Jacquie who tirelessly put the work in not only behind the scenes but also giving up their weekends to direct and organise all the quarter and semi-final events all over the county. Great job!

This afternoon we have the Monday Triples and the Club competitions are beginning to take off. Good!

Middlesex Ladies Triples Today at West Ealing

Good luck to Ann, Cathy & Nadine this morning in the quarter-finals of the Middlesex Triples. They play Vicki, Anna &  Hayley from Ashford to start.

This afternoon, the Club are playing their R&B league v Mid Surrey at 2:30.

Paul S & Peter M are playing their club singles this afternoon and are still looking for a marker if anyone is around. They could do their own measuring if someone was able to do the rest of the role but not be able to kneel down.

Good luck to all !
