Middlesex v Isle of Wight -12:30 Today at the Club

Cambridge Park hosts the Walker Cup (inter county double rink competition) between Middlesex and the Isle of Wight today Sunday 10th. Play starts at 12:30 and supporters and spectators are very welcome.
Plenty of suncream, hats and water are essential as it’s expected to hit 30C today.
The bar will be open for soft and alcoholic drinks too.
Good luck to our ladies. You can do this!

Well Done to our Girls!

The day started cloudy but at a pleasant temperature but, by the time we reached Brentham, the sun was out in all its glory and the temperature shot up!

A real team effort across the rinks resulted in:

Singles – Dawn v Tonia: 21-10

Pairs – Ange & Ann v Mary & Pat: 18-16 (and talk about leaving in the last couple of ends – spectators now have very short nails)

Triples – Sarah, Lucy & Jean v Bernie, Christine & Frankie: 15-16 ( a game where the jack moved almost every end as well as more than once as the players took it in turn to nudge it this way and that!)

Fours – Tina, Tricia, Nadine & Cathy v Jan, Hazel, Pat & Janeen: 25-8

Thanks to Audrey, our reserve, Norman Teresa & Barry for their support and willing us on from the sides of the green .

Thanks to Brentham for their hospitality before and after the match on a very fast green; to Monica for marking; and Barry B wielding the long measure – he never had a chance to get his snooze in he was on so often!

That win put us into the Middlesex Area Final and we wait to see who our opponents will be. Whoever they are, it will be on a neutral green and we’ll let you know who, where and when

Saturday 9th July

Congratulations to the Senior Fours – Norman, Steve G, Mike C & Laurence who won their quarter-final match v Brentham last night.  More details on semi-final to follow when known.

This morning Steve P has been asked to be at West Ealing at 9:30 for the Unbadged Quarter Finals but we’re not sure who he’s playing and who will miss out on the line up published earlier in the week.  Good luck Steve.   If you can get over to support him, I know he’d be grateful to see some familiar faces!

Moving north of borough, the Ladies are playing Brentham in the Area Semi FInal of the National Top Club competition.  Good luck to htem- they’d be pleased to have some support too – their match starts at 10:30 am.

Unforutnately with so many already occupied today, the South Middlesex League match has had to be cancelled.

We still need some more ladies for the Friendly Triples v Bishop Duppas on Tuesday 12th as well as next weekend’s matches.  If you can’t get down to the club to put your name up, please let Norman or Ray or Jane know and they can sign up for you.

Thanks.

Friday Updates

Firstly congratulations to Sarah & Lucy on their win this week against Elaine & partner from Hurlingham Park. They whizzed off the starting line to 12-0 then the HP duo crawled back up to 13-13. Sarah & Lucy moved into top gear to win 24-14.
They now face Hannah & Sue from Bush Hill Park in the Middlesex final of the National Senior Pairs.

Dawn & Paul came from behind in their National Mixed Pairs v Janine & Vikash v Brentham and now play Tina & Ashley in the Middlesex Area semi-final on Tuesday at West Ealing.

Dawn’s winning streak came to an end yesterday when Tina played a cracking game to win 21-9 in the Middlesex Area semi-final of the National Senior Singles.

Tina will play the winner of Wanda from North London and Hannah from Bush Hill Park in the Area final.

At midday today, Steve P is playing his club singles  Steve had a good run in the Middlesex Unbadged Singles with 4 wins but there seems to be some confusion on the website and the last two don’t appear to have been recorded  We’re not sure what has happened there as Steve should be in the quarter-finals tomorrow but is not listed in the line up

Tonight , amongst the Friday Night Leagues, Norman, Steve, Mike & Laurence (coming in for a poorly Gordon) are playing Brentham in the Middlesex Senior Fours quarter-final. Expect some exciting bowling!

Some More Wins!

On Monday night, Tina & Cathy won their O55’s Middlesex Ladies Pairs v girls from Bishop Duppas by 32-10; Sarah & Jean, who kindly came in for Lucy while she is still recuparating Beat Marion & Carole from Ashfor by 19-12.  Teresa should be playing Ann Bamber in this competition as well, but I haven’t heard the scores yet.

Elsewhere, Dawn & Paul Cater had a slow start but good win v Janine & Vikesh from Brentham in the National Mixed Pairs.  Scoring a 6 on the 16th end was definitely a big help as we had been behind the whole match. The next round will be against Tina & Ashley.

For the Ladies, our next outing is the Top Club at Brentham on Saturday morning.  The Brentham green is fast.  We were playing  at 90 degrees to the club house and with a normal one-swingy/one straigther side there was an added complication that on the even ends, the pace of the green was one yard slower.  For long jacks, I think chewing gum might be needed to keep the bowls on the green.  Needless to say, we didn’t play long jacks!

It Was A Successful Weekend

In the R&B League match we put up two rinks instead of three.  I believe Teddington were also finding it difficult to put out a team on Saturday.  20-20 on one rink and 24-25 on the other.  I won’t mention the 6 that was dropped on the 19th end. Oops.  It’s happened before and it will happen again.  One never knows how it’s so difficult to get one fairly decent shot in the head whe you’ve already played 18 ends and know what the green is like!  Bizarre when you think about it but we’re only human after all.

Well done to those who played.  You don’t get many matches with only one shot in it at the end!

On Sunday, in the Ladies Two Bowl SIngles, the sun shone and16 of us lined up, adrenalin pumping to start the day off at Hendon BC.

Audrey went out on a tight game to Pam Waller from Winchmore Hill in the last 16; Ann beat Barbra Ann Bogan (Bush Hill Park) and Janice beat Anna Mays (Ashford) making it into the quarter finals  but then succuming to Terri Watkinson (Bush Hill Park) and Hannah Hollis (Bush Hill Park) respectively.  Dawn had tense games against Frances Gershfield (Bishop Duppas), then Pam Waller then made it through to the final after beating Vicki Smith from Ashford in the semi.    Terri and Hannah had a nail-biting semi which went to the extra end.   Hannah held shot and Terri managed to come in with her second bowl and rest on it.  A really good match and a shame they couldn’t both win.

Dawn will play Terri in the final at Bush Hill Park but, luckily for both of us, we will also be representing Middlesex in the National Championships in Leamington on 5/6th September.  (Guess who was still smiling hours after getting home?!)

Thanks to Hendon for their hospitality and to Jacquie E, Dee and Brian Hearn for their parts in the day running smoothly and to Mandy, Darren & Wanda for marking/umpiring.

Middlesex Two Bowl Singles – Last 16 – Sunday 3rd July

Ann H, Audrey, Janice & Dawn head over to Hendon this morning to compete in the final 16 of the Middlesex Two Bowl Singles. The rounds go up to and include the semi finals, with the finalists having a couple of weeks to wait to battle it out on the main Middlesex Ladies Finals Day on 24th July.

Good luck to all four girls. Play well!

If anyone would like to come over and support …
