Well Done, Sarah!

After the County match v Staines last Wednesday, Sarah was awarded her Middlesex Colts’ Badge by Dee Hardy. I believe Sarah gets the full County Badge quite soon.
Congratulations, Sarah, you have definitely earned the award.

Sarah & Lucy were in action on Sunday morning in the National Ladies Pairs v Tricia & Dawn. It was a very good game with tight heads with Sarah & Lucy reaching the finishing line first!  Good luck in the next round.

Ann, Cathy & Nadine went down in the Quarter Finals of the Middlesex Triples to Sue Apperly, Gerry Bignell & Hannah Hollis from Bush Hill Park. The BHP trio won their semi final too and will face North London in the final.

Bowls England Filming at Cambridge Park last Friday

Hi, Norman,

May I thank you, on behalf of Middlesex, for volunteering Cambridge Park facilities to Bowls England for their promotional filming day.

Thanks also go to all the Cambridge Park members who turned up and were a great backdrop and possible part of the montage of photos that will be on BE’s social media and websites.

Most particularly I must thank you, Norman, for looking after the crew, Ange for doing the shopping, and Jane for looking after liquid needs of club members and crew.

Also, congratulations must go to Scott for being an integral part of the filming. It’ll be interesting to see how many of the shots they took of Scott make the final cut!

All the best.

PS.  Well done to the four CP members who were filmed plalying indoors too!

Middlesex Ladies Triples – Quarter/Semi Finals – Sunday 19th June

Good luck to Ann, Cathy & Nadine in the quarter finals of the Middlesex Ladies Triples tomorrow at North London BC.

They play Sue Apperly & team from Bush Hill Park.

Other club teams are Mandy Simpson (Ladygate) who plays Joan Kirk (Hurlingham Park); Ann Middleton (Milll Hill) v Lisa Hanby (North London) ; and Dot Stanners (Staines) v Christine McLeod (Brentham).

Good luck particularly to the CP girls but we hope you all play well.  The weather for the day ?  Who knows – both the BBC and Met Office didn’t come up to muster today!

Johns & Middleton Cup. Surrey 2: Middlesex 0

Disappointing for both the men’s and adies’ teams today with each of our teams only winning one rink (Well done to Gillian Taylor, Nadine, Sue Apperley & Cathy on the ladies side.)

It would appear that both greens that were played on today were tricky with multiple green or brown patches, making the weight really hard to control.  Same for all players and, on our rink, they were just closer than us!

Good luck to Surrey in the next rounds of the competitions.

Lights, Cameras, Action … and Water!

Some exciting news!

Bowls England will be coming down to the Club tomorrow (Friday) to do some filming.

Please could as many of you come down whether you’re playing or just watching. Wear bright casual clothes bearing in mind, it will be very hot. (Swimsuits would be going a bit too far!)

Dig out those Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts, summer dresses and the like.
They will be filming all day and will chatting to some of you as well. There is nothing to be frightened of as they want to talk and film ordinary human beings playing bowls, not those aspiring to hit the west end stage!

It’ll be a fun day and those big you who only play indoors are very welcome to come along and enjoy the occasion. Bring plenty of water with you as well as high factor sun cream to top up throughout the day.
The bar will be open as usual.

Bowls England are looking for footage for the digital media outlets.

Thanks.

Club Competitions

In case you hadn’t spotted them yet (although some of you have), the draws for the Club Competitions are up on the noticeboard.

Well done to Brian Curwood for all the effort he’s put in to the comps. Please support him by playing your games by the deadlines!

Good to see Roy E & Steve P in the Middlesex Pairs at Ashford last night. They put up a creditable performance v Martin Payne and Pat G even though our boys lost.
I was fortunate enough to win my National Singles against Marion B.
Any more results anyone?

4 out of 16 = 25%

Following the Middlesex Ladies Two-Bowl early rounds yesterday, four of our ‘girls’ have made it through to the final 16 of the competition.
Congratulations to Ann H, Audrey, Janice and Dawn who all made it to the next stage on Sunday 3rd July at Hendon.
Cathy, Karen & Ange went out in the first round after close matches and Tina had a nail biter against Marie winning on the extra end before succumbing to Janice who could have bowled through her legs facing backwards and draw to the jack as she was definitely on fire!

Good to see Karen taking her first steps into a competition and she did not disgrace herself!  She also took on the role of Marker for a following match.  Well done and keep it up.

Nearer to home, unfortunately the Cambridge Park mixed double rink teams went down to Bishop Duppas – a reverse of the same tie last summer. Well done to Bishop Duppas and we wish them well as they progress through the National Tony Alcock competition.
