What A Swell Party That Was!

Well done to Karen the Chef, Sarah the Sous Chef and all the helpers who peeled, chopped prepared and served the Christmas Dinner. It was fantastic!

The tables looked lovely- thanks, Wilma.
The spontaneous raffle raised over £200 for the Salvation Army.
A splendid occasion where all the club members did their bit to make it a roaring success!

Too busy enjoying the afternoon to take many photos so just a random selection above

Thank you to everyone

Just one more week to go  so Happy Christmas if we don’t see you before then

Last Day for 1st Class Posting Today!

Whether cards and parcels will reach recipient by next weekend is still a bit debatable.

Presentation of outdoor competition trophies tomorrow around midday so do pop along to that if you have one to collect, even if you’re not staying on for Christmas lunch.

Still chilly out but going up, up, up into double figures on Monday to around 13c, although you will need an umbrella.

Happy Birthday to Peter T!

Hope you have a lovely day and watch your feet on the pavements. They’re much slippier this morning.
Same goes for all of you on the pavements.

If you’re on a bike, do not brake with your wheels on an angle only when they’re straight.

Is that the same when you’re driving a car? I know you have to turn into a skid but should you only attempt to break if the wheels are facing straight? Andy, Dave?

Under Pressure

Everyone would be disappointed when England went out of the World Cup on Saturday night. There were definitely a couple of odd decisions against the team but France did play well although England did seem to have more shots at goal.
Harry Kane is shouldering the blame. He converted one penalty in spectacular fashion but having to  take a second put him under enormous pressure. Aim somewhere different, double bluff and go to the same place? What would be going through your mind if it was you?

Ange had to take (and converted) penalties into goals when she was England Hockey Captain.   The pressure must be unbelievable especially at such a high level. Ask her!

The England team did really well but it wasn’t to be their year.

Rinaldo left the pitch in tears when Portugal didn’t get through.

It hurts so much when the passion is high. We feel it at our level of bowls when that final shot doesn’t come off. We may not go and sob in the corner but it still hurts.
Whoever goes out of the Strictly semi-final tonight I’m sure will be devastated. Being so close and just not scaling the final hurdle after all the training.

We all learn from losing. We lose more than we win in every sport. It’s part of life and we become stronger for it.

For those football fans, I gather the Premier League starts again on Boxing Day, so not too long to wait for another fix!

Competition Success – Hooray!

Steve, Norman, Ian & Dave beat Camberley in the second round of the London & Southern Counties Fours competition on Tuesday night.  They now face another Camberley team in the next round.  Well done chaps.  Fly the CP flag!

Tina, Tricia, Teresa & Lucy lost their National Fours against Egham (sigh) at CP on Tuesday night but the three T’s are back at Egham on Wednesday night in the National Triples.  Fingers crossed.

Club Competition Draws

Had a really good pasting in the National Two Bowl Singles tonight.  I was ahead after the first end, then was ceremoniously stuffed 1-21 by Kylie Jenkins of Egham just returned from her England team trial.   So pleased to get the 1!

Anyway, as a result I got home somewhat earlier than expected!

If you click on Calendar – then Leonard Denny Memorial, you should find the Club Competition Draws.  I haven’t worked out how to change Leonard Denny to Club Comps, so bare with me for the time being.

Thanks

Dawn

Club Competitions

The eagle-eyed members will have spotted the Club Competition draws up on the noticeboard.
I will load them onto a separate page on the website but not be able to do that before Wednesday night.

One good National result for Sarah & Lucy as they beat Tina & Dawn on the final end of the Ladies Pairs. They now face Ann B & Di. There’s going to be a CP win in this match!
Another positive result was that Dawn beat Norma B from Egham in the National Singles and now faces Kylie J in next round. She also plays Kylie in two-bowl singles tonight

Sarah, Lucy & Ann B went down to Amanda, Doreen & Kylie from Egham in the Triples and Di, Ann H & Dawn lost on the last end to Ann R, Isabel & Wendy from, yes – you guessed it – Egham in Open Triples

Laurence lost out to Dave Pitt in National Singles and one of the Egham twins in the two-bowl singles at the weekend.
Sarah, Lucy & Ann.

Still more Nationals to be played, so we keep trying!

A Mixed Bag Today

The sun has been shining up here at Potters in Hopton-in-Sea – better than yesterday when we arrived in either fog or very thick sea mist!

All our teams have played twice and we have had a mixed bag of wins, losses and draws. We’ve met up with familiar faces and struggled to remember names. We’ve walked to the sea, watched the football, played bingo, eaten excellent food and caught up with each other over coffee/tea/beer/wine and enjoyed the fantastic Potters Theatre Company show again tonight.
The highlight for some was Laurence getting to grips with the CP table football draw and then actually playing some games. “Who are that noisy lot?” “ Must be the Cambridge Park Tourists shouting every time someone scored a goal. They must think their playing in the World Cup knockouts!”
