Anyone Running in the London Marathon on Sunday?

Probably not looking at all our knees, hips, etc!

Have you ever run it?  Do you know anyone running this weekend?

Unfortunately the rainy weather forecast isn’t that great but maybe that’s better if you’re a runner?

There’s a long gap between indoor and outdoor seasons this year, isn’t there?   Seems to be dragging on.  Another week to go now, hopefully.

Yearning for Outdoor Bowls

Hasn’t the weather been great over the last couple of days? Spring is on its way with the blossom and flowers and, at long last, a bit of warmth in the sun.
hopefully less than 2 weeks until our green opens. Many clubs across the country are under way, with open day and men’s v ladies games.
Our Open Day is Monday 29th May from 12:00-4:00 pm and ties in with Bowls England’s Big Bowls Weekend.
Have you thought about who you could ask to come and have a go? Sarah’s got some fun games lined up for taster sessions.
Get your thinking caps on and, while doing so, start practising bending up and down as if you were going to deliver a bowl so your body starts to get ready!

Friday Night Outdoor Leagues and Other Deadlines for Entries

Brian Noel has asked that anyone interested in playing in the Club Triples league sign up on the noticeboard by 30th April.  Please let Brian or Jane know

if you still want to enter the Richmond & Barnes Open Singles, Pairs, Triples or Fours, please complete a form and leave on the S pigeonhole at the club by next Sunday – 23rd April – or let Dawn know.

If you want to enter the MIddlesex County Indoor competitions for 2023-24, please complete  form and leave in the S pigeon hole and/or let Dawn know  by next Sunday 23rd April

Anyone else got any more urgent deadlines?!

Outdoor Fixtures

Sign up sheets for Mixed Drive on Saturday 29th April at 2:30 pm and May outdoor fixtures will be up at the Club tonight, just ahead of the meeting at 7:00 pm regarding the proposed 5G mast site in our car park!

There’s quite a lot of basic info on sites for telecoms masts on gov.uk

Bring your questions along e.g.

Why put it in the CP car park?

Is it harmful living near a mast?

Will my property devalue?

WIll my mobile phone work faster?  Will it drain more battery?

Which other sites have been proprosed for the mast?

Can an extension be put on an existing mast – wherever they’re sited – instead?

Middlesex Indoor Comps – Well done Teresa & Tina!

Congratulations to Teresa & Tina as they won their semi-final in the MIddlesex Ladies Pairs and will play Sandra Williamson-Mills & partner next Saturday 15th in the final.
Also appearing next Saturday Peter J & Peter T in the Men’s Pairs; Steve G, Tricia, Mike C & Tina in the Mixed Fours; and Dawn in the Ladies Singles.

Next indoor season’s entry forms will be at the Club this afternoon (Saturday 8th) and need to be completed and given back to Dawn by Sunday 26th.

All go!

A Great Effort but Didn’t Quite Make It

Jean, as roving reporter, kept us up to date with scoring.
it was neck and neck all the way to 13th end with only one shot in it either way. After that the opposition broke away to win 20-15. Norman and the two Peter’s did win the final end so that was a positive finish.
Well done for getting to Nottingham in the first place. Steve was disappointed not to be able to play of course, but will be back in the driving seat for next season so local opposition should watch out!

From Stella, Dave & Brian C’s viewpoint as Club Competition organisers, it means the schedule for Finals Weekend will go ahead as planned as everyone will be back in the Cambridge Park area.
Play starts at 9;30 am on both mornings.

Saturday 25th March – Men’s Pairs Semi-Final – Updated with The Result!

Peter T & Peter J and Andy & Will battle it out for a place in the Middlesex Men’s Pairs final this morning starting at 10:00

When I reached the club around 11:00-ish, Andy & Will were well down.  They were still down when I left just after midday.

Report from Andy H:

Well your County finalists are the two Peters. After what looked like a run away game for them both and with WIlls and myself not on our A game with three ends to go, the score was 20-11.

However, not being one to give up and where many would have walked away, we plodded on, picking up 1 shot on the 19th making the score 20-12.  On the 20th end, WIlls placed the jack at exactly 23 meters.  Going up to bowl, we were 1 down with Peter J holding shot, so I played with a little bit of weight and pushed the jack out so we are then holding 3, Peter T bowled tight and we managed to pick up a SIX, taking us 2 behind in the final end.

Peter J bowled two perfect bowls which we just couldn’t move, so the final score 22-18.  I’m just glad we made the score look more respectable.

Thanks, Andy.

Tina won her Club Singles v Audrey to reach the Final.  Well done.

Kevin’s Fours went down by 1 shot in the final end v Century last night in the MIddlesex semi-final played at Hounslow. Sooo close.

Big Thank You from Steve G!

Steve G wanted to pass on his thanks to everyone who wishes him well for his operation.
The past few days have been busy with various tests and all seems very positive. (Editor’s note: we wouldn’t have wanted anyone to be positive this time 3 years’ ago!)

Anyway, Steve is looking forward to R&R and recharging his batteries and toning his muscles ready for the outdoor season!

Take it steady for a full recovery, Steve.  We need you!
