Bank Holiday Monday

Hope you’ve all enjoyed the Coronation, Street Parties etc. Yesterday had the best weather for the weekend, for sure.
Personally, I enjoyed the Westminster Abbey Service music to the concert last night, although Katy Perry was excellent.

Today, it’s our chance to play, eat and get to know each other. If the weather does as forecast, we’ll move indoors.
Ange is catering for 34 Ploughman’s Lunches so we’re all looking forward to seeing you! 11:30 start for the less competitive bowls.

Outdoor Green Bookings.

Please use the outdoor green booking page.
m unlike indoors, the 6 rinks maybe tuning from the clubhouse to the Bridge Club or at 90 degrees to that.
So, you may like rink 5 from the clubhouse but not when it’s running the other way.
So, when you make your booking, please add Club Comp, County Comp, National Comp or roll up to your name.
Nationals will get priority over County, County over Club matches and Club over roll up.
I hope that makes sense.
It will also help Jane with the bar and locking up timings.
Thanks.

Saturday 29th April – Outdoor Roll Up

Just a heads up that France are playing our Red Roses at 1:00 pm.  Everyone should be well tucked inside the stadium by 2.00 pm when it would be good for to arrive.

Wear what you like as long as you have your bowls shoes.

If you’re venturing outdoors for the first time, the bowls won’t travel nearly as far.  Unless  you’ve been weight training for the last 6 months or even fortnight, when you won’t have a problem, the rest of wll all be playing short until we get the rhythmn of our swing going, so don’t worry.  You just have to remember that we were all new to outdoors at one stage!

Mugs of tea and alcholic beverages will be available to purchase at the end.  Jane – you might get a run on Guinness!

Anyway, looking forward to seeing as many of you who can make it tomorrow afternoon!

Saturday 29th – Outdoor Roll Up

Yes. We’re going outdoors this weekend!

Roy will set up the ‘bumper’ mats but we still need to avoid lobbing the bowls onto the green, dropping bowls from hip height and any other deliveries that might leave dents on the green!
The ground is still tender so we need to look after it until it begins to harden up.
thanks to Trevor for all the work he’s put in since the autumn to get the green ready.

if you’re coming on Saturday, please be there for 2:10 on so we can start at 2:30. We’re unlikely to play more than two hours as the green will be playing heavy. It’ll just be good to get going. Some of us have County matches and County competitions next week. Eek!

Alexa says it’ll be about 18c – ooh, almost shorts weather!  – and dry on Saturday. (Wet on Sunday). Met Office says dry on Saturday and Sunday and the 18c will feel like 15c!

Look forward to seeing some of you. Dress code casual.

Happy St George’s Day !

Not only is it St George’s Day, it’s also the London Marathon,

Ray Verralls ran the London Marathon FIVE times (although not recently). That is a fantastic achievement !  Happy memories, especially when that theme music The Trap by Ron Goodwin tune starts playing.  It makes me think of Chariots of Fire.

The oldest person running today is 90. Perhaps some of us should start our training soon?!
