We were very sorry to hear from Jane that her daschund, Ellie, despite fighting her illness hard, went over the rainbow bridge yesterday.
For anyone who has had a pet, you know that losing them is very heartbreaking and we send Jane our love.

Gordon MacLeod and Ange Cumine! Huge Congratulatiosn!
The finals were worthy of such with plenty of banter amongst the men and serious concentration with the girls.
Peter Chapman had a good win over Brian Noel and Gordon over Brian Curwood in the men’s semi-finals and Ange had a comfortable win over Audrey and Dawn scraped through v Stella Spaulding.
In the Ladies’ final, Dawn took a strong lead playing short jacks, then went off the boil as Ange came into her own with long jacks, so from being 3-16 down, Ange had a great come back to win 21-16.
There seemed to be a of antics on the next door rink with Peter lying on the mat at one point and a crowd hanging over the ditch to see who was holding. Anyway, Gordon came through as the winner and it was a good match enjoyed by all.
Thanks to Laurence for organising the competition, to Margaret for setting the rinks out, to Roy, Terry, Richard H and Laurence for marking and to Jane behind the bar, and Gym on his gardening watering stint!
It was good to see so many people watching and applauding where appropriate and enjoying the occasion and finally, thank you to the sun, which came out and stayed out, making playing and spectating much more enjoyable!
Across the county, Lucy & Kevin won their quarter final 21-20 and Mike & Tina won theirs 21-19 (on the last end apparently). Great news but then they had to play each other and Mike & Tina secured their place in the Middlesex Mixed Pairs Final on Saturday 25th September. They play Tony Waller (Ladygate) & Rose Mayo (Rosedale Park). Good luck to them.
Dave Pitt was pon fairly even scores at 5 ends v Roy Spencer in the Thames Valley Pairs final. I haven’t had the result yet.
Hurlingham Club could only supply two triples so our teams are:
Scott, Ray & Roy
Stella, Linda & Steve P
Match Captain: Ray
Whites with Club/Centenary Shirts
Good luck to Richard and the team playing this afternoon at Hampton.
Good luck to our Ladies’ Pairs playing in the Middlesex Competition this evening. Sarah & Lucy v Jean & Nadine at home at 6.00 pm; Ange & Dawn away at Fordbridge Park.
Kevin L has made it into the final 16 of the Unbadged Singles which will be next Wednesday not this – a week off! Please let us know what time you’re playing and hopefully some of us will be able to come along and support.
It’s supposed to be 23 C today which is an improvement on daytime temperatures of recent. However, if you’re out later, it’s going to drop to 7 C, so best have a jacket and get your heating on for when you get home!
Congratulations to Cathy who managed a win over Tina from Bishop Duppas in the Middlesex Singles Championships. Because there were no county competitions in 2020, Cathy is still the defending Champion. No pressure!
Semi-final will be against ? from Division 2 – they hadn’t logged their result. In the other semi Sandra Williamson-Mills from Grovelands plays Elaine Gokmogul from Hurlingham Park. Matches start at 10.00 am at Holtwhites, 1 Kirkland Drive, Holtwhites Hill, Enfield EN2 0RN. If anyone can go and support, I know it would be appreciated but understand it’s a long way to go.
In the National Mixed Pairs, Paul Cater (West Ealing) & Dawn managed at 20-5 win over Sue Butcher & Craig Hills from West Ealing. They now face either a team from Hurlingham Park or Brentham.
Tomorrow is the next round of the Men’s Unbadged Singles – good luck to Kevin L; and the Ladies Pairs – a home tie between Jacquie & Marie v Jean & Nadine; Sarah & Lucy v Marion B & partner away at Ashford and, Ange & Dawn V Carole K & Frances away at Bishop Duppas.
Happy Birthday to Ray V and Brian C. Hope you both have a good day and, as Ray is playing this afternoon, we hope he has a brilliant game!
Well done to the team playing Bishop Duppas yesterday. I gather it was an honourable draw. Top rink winners haven’t filtered through yet but I think it was a win in that it didn’t rain! I would like to report that after our Centenary match tomorrow but I looked at the Met Office app this morning. Oh dear!
Anyway, a bit of wet won’t stop us having a good time with each other. Bring plenty of cloths and waterproofs and a sense of humour. We have spent years playing outdoor bowls in the sun, the rain, storms, hail, so whatever the weather, it won’t be a new sensation!
The rhododendrons and tree arrived from Squires on Monday and, although in pots, all need proper planting. Ange has volunteered Scott to dig a hole for the tree. I don’t know if he knows that yet! Anyone else fancy a bit of planting? There are a couple of tall pots and a medium pot, two fuschias and some bedding plants to go in. I’ll be going down tomorrow morning to do a bit.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Dawn
Actually slept for 8 hours last night, so everything started late today!
That wind is jolly cold so if you haven’t ventured out yet, make sure you wrap up warm. I hope the forecast doesn’t mean we’ll be making snowmen next week.
The 2021-2022 Membership Application Form can be accessed via the link below. There will be hard copies at the Club from 14th April if you don’t have access to a printer.

14th April. That’s just 10.5 days away. We just have to stay safe and obey the current rules then we can get out and get on with the work around the club with you! Hooray. Face-to-face meet ups working in groups of six.
We’ve had one volunteer for 14th along with Ange and Terry so far. We’d like to see more of you and we don’t care what your hair looks like! If you have a yard broom or a paintbrush or the like, please bring them. Bring gardening gloves, if you’d like to help tackle the weed in the flowerbed between our club and Richmond Bridge Club. We also need to count the coins in the whisky bottle, so if physical work isn’t your thing, maybe one or two of you might like to tackle that. I can’t remember who emptied it last. Was it Margaret B and Beryl or Ann B and Val? It was certainly a while ago.
Talking of Margaret B, keep bringing your 1lb/450g empty jam jars to the club. Margaret loves jamming and she’s planning a great Centenary session!
Apologies as this is being posted somewhat later than usual.

This is something we can all do, even if we don’t have feeders, maybe take a look at one in your neighbour’s garden or on the golf course – George H knows the ducks quite well.
I had two robins and a wren on my balcony this morning. I hope they come back when I’m on my hour’s watch tomorrow!
Let us know what birds you have seen. Those of you nearer the parks might get more varieties.
It’s good we’re playing indoors. It is definitely too soggy out to bowl! However, if you’ve got the waterproof gear, go out for a walk, jump in some puddles. Laugh and return home for tea and crumpets!
Looking forward to welcoming Iver Heath this afternoon for 3 triples game.
Tina, Terry & skip Peter T (Match Captain)
Tricia, Barry & skip Teresa
Dawn, Gym & skip Steve G
Reserves: Ange, Bob & Frances, Laurence, Brian N
We’re playing Shoplands Select at the back end of hte month. When I’ve got the date, I’ll put a sign up sheet up. Not all clubs are playing indoors yet, so the matches will be few and far between I think. We’ll arrange something else at the weekends though. Anyone else like Australian Pairs?
Thanks
Dawn
