In the Blink of an Eye

… that 15 minutes between 7.00 and 7.15 am goes whizzing by and there isn’t enough time to post anything on here!

The bar is up and running again. Do admire the flooring!

Men’s 2020 club semi-final of two bowl singles tonight between Peter T and Roy E

There will be coaching at 9.30 am on Saturday whilst away at Herga, the 2020 Middlesex Indoor Club Finals will be taking place at Herga from 10.00 am. Ange will be playing the singles final and with Dawn in the Pairs. Steve, Mike & Norman play in the Triples and Ann H & Dave P play in the Mixed Pairs.

On Sunday morning, Ann B & Di take on Tina & Dawn in the National Pairs (or it maybe Over 60’s Pairs) and there is a roll up for everyone at 2.00 pm. Please be there by 1.40 pm so we can get numbers sorted. No rugby on Sunday!

The Bar is Coming Along Nicely

Well done to Gordon for his very long day yesterday getting things ready for the new floor in the bar area.  The screed is down and the topping should be done this morning, so all the various bits of equipment can be moved back into place ready so you can have a drink this evening .. or maybe tomorrow.

Day 3 of the new job.  I have to leave at 7.15 am so I’m trying to get into the earlier routine and work out how much earlier Ihave to get up to do the posts on here.  The job will be easier when I have my login details.  Hopefully today!

Monday 8th November

A bright and chilly start welcomes you this morning …. if you haven’t ventured out yet.

The National Ladies Pairs yesterday morning proved to be a very good game as predicted.  Sarah & Lucy continued their run of outdoor pairs wins on the indoor green but it wasn’t without a fight by Ange & Jean.  There were some great shots by all four players and Jean’s deadly firing the jack into the ditch shot on the 17th end giving her 4 would have put them within in 2 shots of Sarah & Lucy had not Lucy drawn an absolute pearler to the edge of the ditch for second bowl.  Classy bowling all round.

Tonight Steve and Norman have their National Pairs against Sean Gingell and partner at 6.30 pm.  This will be another top quality match, so if you’re not playing in the Monday night leagues, it would be worth coming down to watch this and enjoy a drink from the bar at the same time, where Jane will be ready to serve you.

There was a goodly crowd for the coaching yesterday morning.  Thanks to Ann & Archie, Ann B and Alan for giving up their time to bring on our new bowlers.  They all seemed to be having a good time and we only spotted one wrong bias!  (It happens to all of us every now and then!)

Sunday Morning

Another bright morning.  Chilly, but then that could be expected in November.

Coaching this morning from 9.30 am for new bowlers.

At 10.00 am, there’s a National Ladies Pairs with Sarah & Lucy playing Ange & Jean.  It’ll be a good close match, so do pop in if you’re around about the Cambridge Park area.

Unfortunately the boys didn’t make it through the first round of the Denny Plate v Hounslow yesterday morning which was a shame.  Peter Twell’s boys only lost by one shot having clawed their way back from 6 shots behind earlier in the match.  Steve’s four caught up from behind to go ahead for a short while but the Hounslow four skipped by Paul Cater managed to win in the end and Laurie’s chaps lost out to Dave Pitt’s four.  Gym’s guys pulled up to 14-14 after 15 ends, then dropped back.  I understand the rub of the green was going Hounslow’s way after an – wicking in shot gave Hounslow 5 points.  If you’re in the head …..  Anyway, well done to Scott and Steve P who made their debut appearances in the club team for a national competition.  Thanks to Darren Stanford who umpired at Cambridge Park and to Jane behind the bar and Tina making pre-match drinks in the kitchen.

It was almost an girls’ afternoon for the roll up yesterday with two Bernards joining us, having being caught up in the  rugby traffic.  It was fun and it was also a great opportunity for us all to try out some different shots as it was a very relaxed afternoon.

Brentford were playing but like our chaps in the morning, they didn’t beat Norwich.  I’m sure Delia Smith and Stephen Fry were pleased with their team’s win even if our CP supporters weren’t.  Hopefully our West Ham followers will have a more fruitful afternoon’s watch when they take on Liverpool.  Think I’ll stick with Strictly!

London & Southern Counties – Admin Help Wanted

From John Harriyott – Vice Presdient – London & Southern Counties Bowling Association

Prior to the pandemic we at London & Southern Counties Bowling Association were building up our Indoor range of competitions.

The aim being to bring then up to the quantity and quality of our renowned Outdoor competitions.

Those of you that have been involved will know that our current President, Tony Plater, has been the driving force behind its growth.

However Tony’s health is such that this seasons competition may well be the last that he will be able to organise.

To put it bluntly, we need a man or woman that is keen on competitive Indoor bowls, to step forward and join us.

We do have an established framework for the competitions. We already have many clubs entering the competitions.

We also have active executives that work well together and do help each other.

What we do need is someone to take on the running of the Indoor competitions and develop them for the future.

It could be you be a person within your club

London & Southern Counties Bowling Association have been around for over 125 years and we want to extend our Indoor bowls competitions up to the lofty heights of our Outdoor competitions.

Please do what you can to help us succeed.

Thanks

John Harriyott

Vice President London & Southern Counties Bowling Association.

Denny Plate – Still Going Ahead at 10.00 am on Saturday!

Ignore previous post (now deleted!). Text message didn’t qualify which boys’ match had been cancelled!

Kevin K’s boys play their National Triples match at 6.30 pm tonight (Friday)

Denny Plate Saturday morning at 10.00 am v Hounslow – Home and Away

In the National Ladies Pairs first round, Sarah & Lucy will be battling it out with Ange & Jean at 10.00 am on Sunday morning.

So, three top quality competition matches to watch if you want to pop in

Good luck!

There is coaching for new bowlers on Sunday morning too starting at 9.30 am. A good number came along last week and enjoyed themselves.

A Good Win!

Lovely morning from the start today.  Hooray!

The teams had a very good match yesterday afternoon v Shopland Select with fund raising for their local charity for the viusally impaired.   Hefty wins on 3 rinks led Ken Shopland to say they had enjoyed “the lesson they had been given” and “we’ll be taking those lessons on board when we play Grattons next Sunday!”

Some days  you can, some days you can’t and yesterday all of our team played well throughout the afternoon.

In the morning the National Mixed Fours between Peter, Kevin, Ange & Di v Laurence, Mike, Tina & Dawn was played to a good standard with the latter coming through.  To be honest, Peter and Kevin played some brilliant bowls and were unlucky in the result – near miss, a slight nick.  If those shots had come off, it would probably have been even more tighter.

Alas, Steve & Tricia fell to the same fate as Gym & Dawn did when they played Yasmina Hasan & Martin Payne in the National Mixed Pairs last night.  Yasmina is young lady who will go far in both indoor and outdoor bowls (she is currently studying law at uni and has been playing bowls for 10 years already!).  Martin has had some great single results so far this season and his new, almost dayglo, orange bowls certainly seem to do nearly all he requests of them.  Good players and we will keep an eye on their progress.

Morning roll ups every day this week between 10.00 and 12.00.  Leagues as scheduled.

New Roll up session on Tuesday 2.00 – 4.00 pm – turn up if you’d like to play.

Afternoon roll up on Saturday at 2.00 pm after the Men’s Denny Plate match at 10.00 am

Keep an eye on the bookings page as more and more national comps get slotted in.
