Club Centenary Polo Shirts and Fleeces

Norman had a good day yesterday with several shirts (including all the sapphire blue) being sold.  He will be at the club on Wednesday and Friday at midday for sales and is taking orders for more shirts and first orders for the fleeces.  With any luck the orders should be here in time for Christmas.

The fleeces are more limited in colours and Norman will have sample colours with him.  There are plenty of colours available for order on the polo shirts.

If you’re intending to play, rinks need to be booked via the online system.  As there aren’t any for this morning (Tuesday), Ange is not sprinting down to open the club at 9.30 am.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, David H will block book the rinks for roll up pairs.  He has left the current bookings as they are e.g. Brian N, Terry M etc. but I understand you will monitor attendees so that no more than 16 are permitted.

I am sorry a couple of you struggled with the front door yesterday.  We are looking to get it replaced as soon as we can.  It seems to have a mind of its own on some days but not every day.  It has been given a serious talking to!

Christmas Present Idea Needed? Norman has the answer! (Updated with Models!)

Thinking ahead to our Centenary in 2021, Norman has bought some Centenary polo shirts for casual wear which are smart enough to reveal on Christmas Day when you’ve taken your Christmas Jumper off.  Alternatively, they make a great Christmas present for family members.  They cost £25 each and are really, really good quality with the Club benefiting from a proportion of the sales.

Norman will be at the club on Monday 7th December at midday with the shirts.

If you have already ordered one and can’t be there on Monday, please let Norman know.  Cash or cheques for £25 per shirt made payable to Cambridge Park Bowling & Sports Club Ltd.

Norman is also modelling a white Centenary Fleece.  Ask him for more details as these may need to be ordered in bulk.

Friday Night for Lights

As promised, here is the Chapman’s House ready for Christmas, but more importantly ready for anyone who would like to make a donation to Cancer Research.  If you can get along to Whitton and put a few pounds in the box on the wall, it will help in the research for ways to treat and beat cancer.  Thanks.

And while we’re thinking about giving, Ann Macey has a Silver Cross Doll’s pram and doll’s cot which are looking for a new home.

Well Booked!

Great to see that rink bookings started flooding in yesterday with Richard D being the first kid off the block this afternoon and Peter J bringing up the rear tonight!

Thank you.  We are so pleased to be open again and your support through booking and playing is good all round.  If you need rink vouchers, Ange and I will be at the club at lunchtime until 6.00 pm tonight and tomorrow (Saturday) at 10.00 am.

Most of you will have someone to contact and play against, but if you’re feeling a bit shy about asking someone else, email me on enquiries@cambridgeparkbowlsclub.com.  There might be someone else in the same position so it would be a shame if both of you were sitting at  home wishing that you were playing instead.

Thanks

Dawn

PS  Take your umbrella when you go out.  It’s very wet!

Day 0 – Blast Off or Landing?

As the National Lockdown was only 27 days in the end, we have sort of gained this extra day which could make it blast off.  Is that more or equally as positive as a landing?

I don’t think I want to watch 200+ people crushing each other to get inside the shops on Oxford Street, as that is what happened when the first lockdown was lifted.  I’m guessing most of you will be taking things gingerly for today at least.

Anyway following the EIBA notice yesterday, namely:-

Organised indoor bowls can take place for 2 people from different households (singles play) or for people from the same household / support bubble on the same rink as long as they do not interact with people on other rinks.

SO, WE WILL BE OPEN FOR SOLO AND SINGLES PLAY ON ALL FOUR RINKS FROM 2.00 pm TOMORROW, SO FEEL FREE TO START BOOKING!  Ange has updated the Risk Assessment and we will discuss if/how we can organise pairs play at the Board meeting.

This was posted on Twitter by Thomas from Merthyr Tydfil.

Day 2 – National Lockdown Countdown – 2 for 1 Offer

Having had a hunt around, it appears that the National Lockdown finishes tonight so Tier 2 comes into effect tomorrow on what would have been the Day 1 – National Lockdown Countdown.  Psychologically ending the lockdown is a boost to our mental wellbeing even if we don’t fancy heading to the shops, pubs or cafes.

It does mean we can meet in groups of 6 outdoors – so get the thermals out!

The Board meeting is still on Thursday morning and, D.V., we intend to open on Friday morning with all the sanitising, social distancing and other procedures in place that were there when we were forced to shut after 4th November (including having all four rinks available).  We will confirm this as soon as possible.  (There have been no further updates from the EIBA since Friday)

So, open the Advent Calendar, get the Christmas cards finished (Brenda D is well on her way to achieving this task!), and set your sat nav for TW1 2PG – in case you’ve forgotten how to get there, then watch out for your email inbox on Thursday afternoon.

Let’s go!

Day 3 – National Lockdown Countdown – Green and Getting Greener?

Trevor was busy working on the outdoor green on Saturday.  It looks very good indeed – getting into shape for the Centenary in 2021. Thank you, Trevor.   In place of the odd squirrel or crow that likes to visit, we had a passing balloon on Sunday morning.

As the trees shed the last of their leaves, there is still an opportunity for anyone who would like a bit of physical exercise removing leaves from the ditches and/or removing  moss from between the flag stones. Don’t do more than 30 minutes though as it’s back breaking!

Talking of trees, I know a lot of you watch Countryfile.  Their “Plant Britain” sounds a great idea.  We have space around the inside perimeter where maybe some trees could be planted?  When the green opened in 1921, there were rhododendrum bushes all around, so we’re looking at some of those, but maybe the green fingered amongst you could have a think at what else we could plant that would help to conserve our planet as well as enhance the club ground.  A flowering cherry or a ‘tulip’ magnolia are a couple of my favourites.

Day 4 – National Lockdown Countdown – Christmas Light Teaser

Gill and Peter Chapman have their house all set up for their Christmas Fundraising in aid of Cancer Research.  You can image what these will look like when the lights are switched on.  Go and see for yourselves and if  you can spare a donation, there is a collection box on the wall (which is emptied every night.)

Well done both of you and I hope you raise another £2,000+ this year for a great cause.

Day 5 – National Lockdown Countdown – Printer Ink & Top Tens

Mike & Tina have 3 unwanted print cartridges if anyone would like them – free!

And Dawn has one hp black cartridge No.364

Free to anyone who can use them.

Ange and Des have suggested a Top Ten list of players from the British Isles – I’m assuming footballers but we can have a second list for rugby players and a third list for tennis players and a fourth for bowls!

Send your suggestions in the Comments box.
