Three-Way Triples – The Results!

We were given a warm welcome by the Strawberry Hill Bowls Cub Captain Ann B and her team. Luckily the drizzle didn’t deter any of us, managing to complete the 18 ends. The final outcome of all three clubs ( each match the cores were rolled over onto the next match). It was a close match between Cambridge Park & Teddington In each of the three matches, but Cambridge Park managed to pull it off, and finally won by 5 Points.
The WINNER – Cambridge Park BC
 RUNNER-UP – Teddington BC
3rd PLACE – Strawberry Hill BC
We gave each club a certificate yesterday, this will soon be followed by an engraved Trophy. The Trophies will be presented to the three Captains at Cambridge Park Bowls Club before the end of the outdoor season. I would like to thank all players from the three clubs for their donations to cover the costs for the Trophies & engraving.
Thanks for everyone for taking place in this Competition.
Keep safe
Audrey

PS  Well done and thanks to Audrey for organising the competition.  Perhaps you will repeat in 2021?!

Skipped!

Thanks to everyone who bowled in the morning session, then lifted, transported and loaded all the old bits of wood, pallets and etc. from where the old shed used to be and into the skip in the car park!

Great job and very much appreciated!  Thanks.

Sad News to Report Today

We have just learned that Jack Bache lost his battle with cancer yesterday and our deepest sympathies go out to his family on their loss.

A left-handed clever bowler with a quick wit, a lively sense humour and such a fun person to have on your team, he will be well remembered and missed by Cambridge Park and Sunbury bowls clubs.

I was trying to think the last time we saw him play – last summer he played at Sunbury against us and maybe managed the odd indoor game at the start of the 2019 indoor season,  never failing to let his illness get the better of his outlook on the joys of life.

Jack’s funeral will be on 11th September at Hanworth Crematorium.  As the numbers permitted to attend are very restricted, we shall have to raise a mug, cup or glass in memory of a much loved and well respected member of the Cambridge Park family.

Pinch and Pnch for the First of the Month!

September.  SEPTEMBER  How did that come around so quickly?!

Anyone returning to work after the long lockdown and easing of restrictions?  Good luck to those teachers returning to strange new rules.  We’re thinking of you.

Did anyone take up the £10 off Monday-Wednesday meals?  Sort of wish I had done now that it’s finished.

Dates for this week

Wednesday 2nd – The final round of the 3-Way Triples with Strawberry Hill and Teddington.  2.30 pm at Strawberry Hill.

Saturday 5th – MIxed Triples v Isleworth at Cambridge Park.  Think we’re still a couple of names short as they would like 4 triples, rather than three.  Plese sign up if you can play or let Dawn or Gordon know if you’re down at the club mid week.

Saturday 29th – Another Win and Saturday 5th – Another Match Ahead!

Well done to Gordon and the team including for their first match, as we had a good win on all rinks v West Ealing yesterday.

It was bloomin’ cold, there were showers and the wind was biting.  More like November than August!  Fortunately it’s a bit better all round for today’s match v Chertsey this afternoon.  Good luck to all those playing.

Next Saturday, the match v Isleworth will now be at Cambridge Park.  Sign up sheet in the lobby.  We arelooking for 4 triples.  2.00 pm start.

Wednesday 26th August – Three Way Triples Match Report from Audrey

We were received with a very warm welcome by the team of Teddington BC yesterday for our second round of the 3-Way Triples. They were preparing their rinks when I arrived, what a sight I saw:

a luscious carpet of a green grass.

On Rink 1 was our Skip Gordon’s team (CP) & Ann B’s for Stawberry Hill (1).

Ann’s team had a few good ends til end 6, and they didn’t pick up til 15th end, when they recovered with a flurry, to win the next two ends. Gordon’s team, had a steady score of 1s &2s for the fist half; then we adding pace,  but had a blip on 14th & 15th ends, then back on track to have a great win.
On Rink 2 was Skip Peter R‘s team for Strawberry Hill (2 ) & Colin‘s team for Teddington.
Strawberry Hill had a few wins but struggled to break Teddington’s pase. Teddington were consistent in their play and went onto have a Spectacular win.
On Rink 3 was our Skip Gym’s team CP) & Vernon’s team for Teddington:
Both teams came to a tie at 6 ends, then Gym’s team leaped ahead til 12. &13 and Vernon’s team scored 4 shots. Gym’s team composed themselves on the following end to a Spectacular win.
Scores so far: We/Cambridge Park are presently ahead, followed closely by Teddington, then Strawberry Hill.
Our final venue is at Strawberry Hill, on Wednesday 2nd September, game starts at 2.30pm.
When the battle commences to the winning post, EEEK!
Visitors very welcome (bring a cushion to sit on the hard surfaces) You’ll need to keep to social distancing, + bring water/beverages.
“It’s Stawberry Hills Centenary this Year!”

David Tucker, Bowls England Board Chair, said: “David was an icon for many decades, whose name was synonymous with our sport. He was well-respected by all who knew him. I was fortunate to compete against David on the green on many occasions, often coming on the wrong end of the scoreline, but a match against him was always a pleasure and includes many memories that I will never forget. My thoughts are with David’s family and friends at this time.”

David claimed his first Commonwealth Games successes at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Australia, where he secured Gold in both the singles and fours. He went on to claim singles gold in 1970, 1974 and 1978.

200826 – EIBA Return to Indoor Bowls Guidance – Version5

The final match of the outdoor season (Men v Ladies) is on Saturday 19th September.

The Club is booked for a complete deep clean on Monday 21st September and will be closed to all members on that day.

As you will appreciate, once that is done, there will still be many procedures to be implemented in order to provide a safe environment for all of the members, playing or visiting and staff.

It is hoped we will re-open for indoor play at the beginning of October, but we’ll keep you updated via the website and by email to all members who have emails and by phone to those who have not!

At the moment, the tour to Potters in November is still going ahead and the balance payments are due at the end of September.  I will be in touch with those of you currently booked to go.
